English-Irish pop boy band ‘One Direction’ are noted for their clean cut and wholesome image, but the teen group got into a spot of bother with their PR team recently, after losing a large amount of cash at a Las Vegas casino.
Apparently, during a visit to America’s top gambling resort Niall Horan and his band mates Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik and Liam Payne took a trip to one of Sin City’s casinos and tried their hand at a spot of gambling. Niall Horan then had by far the better time of things and as he explains:
“Like most of the stupid things we do, it seemed like it was a good idea at the time. We just thought, ‘We’re 18, this is the first time we’ve been able to spend a bit of money in weeks because we’ve been on the road.’ I won £100, which seemed reasonable, then I stopped.”
However, Whereas Niall Horan booked himself a profit, albeit a small one, it would seem his band mates were much less fortunate. Although Niall did not give specifics of the actual amounts lost, he did explain to We Love Pop’ magazine, recently:
“Let’s just say it got a bit ugly and a lot of money was lost. A lot. When our management found out, we got a serious dressing down about it.”
Nevertheless, the boys said they were happy to consider their Las Vegas splurge a valuable life lesson, and that ultimately things would never be allowed to go too far for the group as they all keep each other firmly grounded. As Louis Tomlinson then explained:
“I think that’s the beauty of being in a band. Often people who have had fame from such a young age as solo artists find it harder to stay grounded, because it’s just them. But with us, we’ve got each other. The minute one of us falls out of line, another one of us will set them straight!”
